TMC's art page

This is a blog for sharing a series of visual images that I have created. I do not claim to be a professional artist, but I enjoy creating within visual media. The initial posts will be works created using the Microsft Paint program. It will include both sketches and altered (photographic) images, and photocollages; in some cases, it will incorporate image materials found using Google Images. Later, I will share some original photographic images.

Pinhead

Another use of a pop culture icon - here, Pinhead from the Hellraiser series. The color from the original is inverted and colors are then added.

This is meant to be satirical

Three rather nice images

Charles Manson

Perhaps I am guilty of a cliche in giving the leader of the Manson Family, a face of evil, demonic reddened eyes. Be that as it may, this also allowed me to experiment with color and to contrast the black and white of this well established image of the death cult leader with a kind of technocolor dreamcoat.

On a related note, I read the book Helter Skelter a few summers ago, and it is a great read. The case of the Manson family is endlessly fascinating. I intend, at some point, to read Ed Sander's book The Family.

Field

Another favorite, and meant to incorporate some iconography of East/West, ancient/modern,Yin/Yang

Citrus

The colors and shapes here remind me of 1950s retro furniture; I grew up with such furniture in the 1960s.

Miles While Listening to Spanish Key

I wanted to create a beautiful tribute to the musical genius Miles Davis, and decided to frame a later black and while shot of him in bright yellow and to add a number of different colors in the form of both airbrushes and brush strokes. I had on the track "Spanish Key" from the album Bitches Brew, one of my all time favorite records, while making this.

Neutral

I'm not sure what this image is about; I created it earlier today in a kind of free associative manner, and added the word "neutral" simply because the word popped into my head at the moment.

Streetcorner Juxtapose

This is one of my favorite of my images, a layered series of city images covered over with some light colored airbrushes.

Around the Institution

A photomontage, meant to symbolically (and perhaps humorously) represent the division of various high school subcultures, all of which are contained with the horizontal and vertical lines suggesting a cage. I also thought it evocative that the "nerds" appear to be more deeply underground and peering out, seemingly oblivious to the life around them.

Snake City

This has as its foundation a shot of my former city - Jersey City and is mean as an abstract work.

This was done using MS Paint program on 6/29/06. I was inspired somewhat by abstract expressionism.
